3 Newsletters to read on Fridays
Nearly 2 years ago (over the summer holidays in Thailand) I read the book 10x Is Easier Than 2x: How World-Class Entrepreneurs Achieve More by Doing Less (by Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy).
One of the takeaways for me was organising my week to have:
Free days, for exploring, recovery, learning, idea generating and testing
Focus days, for getting stuff done, working on important and revenue generating activities, and
Buffer days, for meetings, organising, planning, admin, and preparing type work.
I decided then that Fridays would be a “Free” day.
For a while there I wasn’t too bad at keeping Fridays for:
Taking longer walks with the dogs and thinking.
Reading more non-fiction books to learn and spark ideas.
Doing something creative that was less work related.
Catching up with friends and colleagues for an in-person lunch or coffee.
Often though I would need to use Friday’s to catch up on work I needed to do, work I was struggling with, brainstorming how to get more work, scheduling social media and email marketing or just lying about because I was pooped 🙄
So now I approach Fridays with a bit more of a down-to-earth vibe about what they are for. Sometimes they are more for work, and that’s ok. Sometimes they are for taking the dogs and Mr 16 year old to the beach (who has already finished school for the year in early November. Send help), with a friend and her dog because the weather is stunning (yes this was today).
But there is something I always look forward to on Fridays. 3 Newsletters that land in my inbox.
These 3 newsletters are always interesting and creative and somehow meet the definition of a “Free” day, even if I need to work a little bit.
So there they are. 3 Newsletters to read on Fridays.
Work Fame by Leanne Hughes: I met Leanne through a work colleague, and I want to be her when I grow up. I love following along with what creative and interesting things Leanne is up to. Subscribe to be entertained and inspired to think differently about how you go about your work.
The Harvest by Kemi Nekvapil: I have been following Kemi for a long time and I reckon came upon her when I was part of Business Chicks in Australia. I love her newsletters to learn what Kemi is up to with her book writing, her running, and also her flower farm. Many of her newsletters include fantastic coaching questions for self-reflection. She also runs a free online event called Reflections which is coming up on the 19th November. She guides the group through 25 coaching questions to help us reflect on the year that was —the ups, the downs, the in-between times. I have participated for at least the last 2 years and its great, and I usually end up crying at some point.
Yamini Naidu – I heard Yamini speak many years ago in Sydney and have the book “Hooked: How Leaders Connect, Engage and Inspire with Storytelling” that she co-wrote with Gabrielle Dolan. I often pull this book out when I’m trying to tell a good story in my work. Yamini is a business storytelling speaker and writes short newsletters with interesting stories. Just perfect to reflect on, on a Friday. You can sign up here.
